Your Safety Journey
Taking steps toward safety is an act of profound strength. This guide is designed to provide Fijian diaspora women with a clear, supportive framework for protection—helping you navigate moments of crisis with practical tools and the strength of our community behind you.
01
Trust Your Instincts
If you sense tension rising or feel unsafe, believe yourself. Your intuition is your most powerful tool for protecting yourself and your children.
03
Prepare an Emergency Bag
Discreetly pack a small bag with essential documents, Medicare cards, and cash. If possible, keep it with a trusted friend for quick access.
02
Keep Your Phone Charged
Keep your mobile phone close and fully charged at all times. Save 000 and 1800RESPECT under safe, discreet names in your contacts.
04
Identify Safe Areas
Identify rooms with reliable locks or easy exits. Avoid areas like the kitchen or garage where sharp objects may be present.
Continuing Your Path
05
Create a Code Word
Pick a simple word or phrase to use with trusted family, friends, or neighbors. If you say it, they will know to call the police for you immediately.
06
Teach Your Children
Help your children learn how to call Triple Zero (000). Tell them their only job is to get to a safe place if they hear violence, not to stop it.
07
Find Your Support Circle
Reach out to a trusted community leader, a church sister, or the Fiji Diaspora Women's Alliance. You do not have to carry this burden alone.
08
Know Your Rights
In Australia, domestic violence laws protect everyone regardless of your visa status. You have the right to live safely and free from fear.
